An incredible discovery was made in 1988 when a team of experts came across a shipwreck around 300 meters (1,000 feet) below the surface of the coast of Gela from Sicily.
The shipwreck was insanely ancient, dating back to 2,600 years ago and the weird thing is that it had a couple of strange metals onboard.
As the years moved on more and more of the strange metals have been discovered, to the point wherein 2015, 39 of these ingots were collected.
Then, later on, 47, only to now have nearly doubled that in 2020, reaching a total of 86 metal pieces altogether.
So, you might be wondering, what is this strange metal, to begin with? It is known as Orichalcum, and it was first named by the Greek philosopher Plato in ancient times. He often talked about it and whenever he did, he refers to it as the metal of the ancient Atlanteans from the Lost City of Atlantis.
This was discovered by Sebastiano Tusa, Sicily’s superintendent of the Sea Office that actually discussed in public about how these ingots were originally meant to be taken from Greece or Asia Minor to Sicily.
But, nobody from Sicily has ever been reported to use Orichalcum, to begin with, which is why this is so strange.
This batch was insanely big too, as more and more ingots are discovered every day now, so who could have ordered such a huge pile of them? Many believe it was the Atlanteans themselves.
